So how did we get here?
Someone in our congregations across the USA saw a problem that they thought needed to be fixed.
They went to their session and the session agreed to write and submit a proposed amendment, question or plan to change, research or write a study paper about the concern.
The proposal then goes to a committee of presbytery and then on to the floor of their presbytery for approval.
The proposal is sent to General Assembly and is then sorted into one of twelve committees by subject to consider, to modify, to combine or to recommend to the assembly to say no to.
Then the whole of the Assembly gathers to consider, modify, combine, rewrite and to vote for or against the proposal.
Then the proposals are sent to all the presbyteries to vote on them.
Remember: The GA staff have no vote, they are just a support and resource for the committees and the assembly. The people who vote are ministers and elders who have been elected as delegates by their presbytery. So “they” are “we.”
