Mission Teams Committee (MTC) Meeting
July 20, 2010
Trinity Presbyterian Church
Committee Members Present: Pastor John Becker, Steve Matthews, Georgia Reid, John Lersch
Also Present: Bess Gamm, Criminal Justice; Preston Turley, Columbia Campus Ministries; Bob Balwanz, Disaster Assistance; Ann Bouchard, Senior High and Mid High Youth; Ruth Thompson, Social Justice and Peacemaking; Julie Levenenz, MUP Moderator; Joan Erickson, General Presbyter.
John Becker welcomed all who were able to make the meeting. He opened the meeting with prayer, reading from the 1906 Book of Common Worship, Presbyterian Church in U. S. A. John had everyone go around the table and introduce themselves to our new GP, telling which church the represent, and what committee they are on.
Team Reports:
Church and Society: They have a joint meeting scheduled with the other three presbyteries in Missouri on Sept 11, 2010. Guest speaker will be the Rev J. Herbert Nelson, the Director of Public Witness at the national office in Washington D.C. They request five minutes at the August Presbytery Meeting and a table.
Social Justice and Peacemaking: Desires for everyone to try to increase the Peace Making Offering of the Presbytery. They request five minutes at the August Presbytery Meeting.
Criminal Justice: They plane to have individuals there from each of the Agape Houses with in our Presbytery to talk during the August Presbytery Meeting, requests 10 minutes, and half a table at the meeting.
Disaster Assistance: Requests five minutes at the August Presbytery Meeting.
Columbia Campus Ministries: Report on a more active summer with work in Louisiana, and the Coyle Hill Children Home.
Christian Education: They will need to appoint a new chair person with the departure of Pat Roller. They have planned an upcoming Educational Event at Trinity, the key note speaker will be Ms. Spencer from Heartland Presbytery’s Resource Center.
Senior and Mid High: Report of the departure of 40 youth and adults to Triennium.
Family Enrichment: Has not met.
New Business:
Julie Leverenz report on the stood out for her at General Assembly. She told us about a booth she visited put on by the Synod of Living Waters, called Clean Water for All of God’s Children. How they instruct individual on how to set up clean water facilities in order for them to train local individual to set up and maintain clean drinking water plants.
John Becker brought up and talked about the Evelyn Bedell Award, to be given out at the October Presbytery Meeting.
John Lersch told the committee about his church’s efforts to teach English as a second language, and how that is touching the lives of those individuals involved.
Bob Balwanz closed the meeting with prayer.
