Bruce also welcomed new MTC member John Lersch (Council at-large) who was ‘on the road’ to Trinity this morning. Bruce opened the meeting with prayer at 9:05 am.
OLD BUSINESS
The MTC Minutes from February 23, 2010 were approved as presented. Bruce briefly reviewed the MTC Directory and MTC 2010 Final Budget, which were previously distributed to all members, MT moderators, and Council.
TEAM REPORTS
Agape Fellowship: Ed has graciously agreed to be the MTC liaison to this new Team and will keep everyone informed as the Team becomes organized in the future.
Church and Society: Debby reported on the successful “Legislative Insight: How Government Works” conference March 31st in Jefferson City. The Team has also joined with Heartland, John Calvin, and Giddings-Lovejoy Presbyteries to educate all Missouri Presbyterians about ‘How Government Works’ with primary issues being taxation, health care, and poverty.
Columbia Campus Ministries: Preston reported activity remains brisk as the school years winds down to a close. Plans are already in progress for a ‘Get Planted’ event in July to introduce new college enrollees and existing students at the Columbia colleges to the campus ministries programs.
Criminal Justice: Bess reported the annual “Open Hearts: Open Gates” conference will be held in Columbia September 11th.
Disaster Assistance: Kathy Montgomery (attending Church World Service Forum) submitted the Team will conduct a mission trip to Louisiana, Missouri June 19-27th.
Family Enrichment Ministries: Pastor P. J. reported the Team’s continued existence is ‘in jeopardy’ as interest in participating by the endorsing Hannibal and Palmyra churches has waned. Prayers are requested for this important ministry’s future.
Hungarian Reformed Church (HRC): Bruce reported the Team is planning a Mission Tour trip to Hungary and the Ukraine May 25 – June 4, 2010. Pastor P. J. announced his plans to join the group on this trip.
Media Promotions: Joe Weston submitted a nearly 2-week Easter TV campaign was completed on KOMU, KRCG, and KMIZ. Less expensive social media options are being reviewed to promote the Presbyterian faith such as Facebook, ConstantContact, and others. This will require our members’ involvement in extending invitations to friends and neighbors which is an exciting possibility.
PRESBYTERY MEETING ‘TIME REQUESTS’
The following mission teams requested time for the May 25th MUP meeting at First Columbia: Church and Society; Criminal Justice; and Disaster Assistance. Combined allocated time requested will be 15 minutes. Table space (2) is being requested for Christian Education; Church and Society; and Criminal Justice.
NEW BUSINESS
Church and Society’s request for an ‘endorsement’ from MUP for the Missouri Health Care for ALL coalition was ‘tabled’ at the March MUP meeting in Marshall. A motion was made by Debby to take this tabled motion to the floor of the May 25th MUP meeting in Columbia. Motion passed. Bruce will take this motion to Council with a time request of 15 minutes for members to speak for and against the motion.
There being no further business Pastor P. J. closed the meeting with prayer at 10:10 am.
