Agape House Vandalia

The 3,000th guest arrived at Agape House of Vandalia the end of May!  Veronica of central Illinois had been staying at the house about once a month since Jan 2009, to visits a friend at the correctional center in Bowling Green. She emphasized that Agape House makes it possible for her to visit as frequently as she does because she does not have to pay for a motel.  She added that the quiet Christian influence of co-managers, Ed and Dolores adds to her enjoyment.  “I thank God for this ministry,” she commented.  All of those associated with Agape House Vandalia thank God for YOU and YOUR part its ministry. Donation request for July and August: postage stamps—both 28 and 44 cents—to help with newsletter mailing expenses!

Agape House Ministry

Graduation time is here, a time for new beginnings.  Each week many offenders complete their sentences in Missouri correctional centers; they also make new beginnings.  Research shows that those who have maintained contact with families make a smoother transition to society.  In an effort to make family contact with offenders easier and more affordable, Agape House of Vandalia stands ready to provide overnight accommodations. We thank you for your part in this mission.
Donations requested for May: breakfast bars, juice boxes and cocoa mix.
Agape House in Vandalia is a ministry supported by the Criminial Justice Mission Team of Missouri Union Presbytery.

About 20 attended the informal conversation over breakfast in the Jones Room of the Mueller Leadership (Dining) Hall at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.  Discussion focused around the need for congregations to engage and interact within the context of their community.  Read more »

Ministry that Matters–Agape House Vandalia

(Received 12/09/08) Recently I had the opportunity to stay at the Vandalia Agape House for a day. The folks visiting come from all walks of life and various ages and stages, and are interesting to meet and talk to. During my 24 hours, two groups of guests, neither of which had visited before, arrived.  A few hours later, one woman casually expressed her joy in finding such pleasant and safe surroundings.  Read more »

2008 Mission Trip-Hungary, Ukraine & Romania

By Cecil Culverhouse

1. My first impression on returning to Hungary this year was of great activity. Bishop Csomos met us with many of those who work in various areas of church life. I remember when meeting with the bishop was a quiet affair. Bishops attended functions at the churches (such as ordinations), and encouraged the pastors in their work, but very little was happening. Now the office is bustling. Read more »
