Evelyn Bedell Awards
Each year Missouri Union Presbytery recognizes the contribution of older adults to its work and ministry by presenting Evelyn Bedell awards to outstanding “elders”. Anyone can nominate a deserving older adult to honor them for their faithfulness in a congregation or for Presbytery-wide service. The award is named for Evelyn Bedell, who demonstrated in her life, the energy, imagination, intelligence and love with which an older person can serve the church. At age 72, Evelyn came out of retirement to attend San Francisco Theological Seminary and was ordained as the “Tentmaker Pastor” for Bellflower Presbyterian Church and an Older Adult Worker in Missouri Union. She retired again in 1974.
The Missions Team Committee of MUP generally accepts nominations for the Evelyn Bedell Awards in early October.
