According to the results of the Inventory of Missional Giving for 2010, churches in Missouri Union Presbytery gave over $300,000 to 181 different entities including various food pantries, children’s services, benevolence funds and community projects. That’s almost $40 for every Presbyterian on the rolls in Missouri Union Presbytery!
But that’s not all, we also looked at volunteer service hours donated by members in the name of the church. Presbyterians donated over 15,000 hours of service organizations and projects in the community. That is like having 7 people working full-time 40-hour a week jobs doing mission work in Missouri Union Presbytery all year long! That’s A LOT OF LABOR. But it’s not just a labor…it’s a labor of LOVE. It’s a labor for the LOVE of CHRIST. When you look at the BIG Picture …there is an army of Presbyterians building the kingdom of GOD in Missouri Union Presbytery! Note: There is a file embedded within this post, please visit this post to download the file.

Rob Hoell, from First Presbyterian Church in Fulton, has been named as Covenant Point Camp Director. His degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism, as well has his experience with being a part of a family business has prepared him well for this responsibility. Not letting the grass grow under his feet, he is starting today with this new endeavor. Here is a note from him.

Hello fellow Presbyterians!

I am super excited to be the next Camp Director for Covenant Point Camp and Retreat Center! I am thankful to be able to serve YOU, the members of the Presbytery, and am looking forward to getting to visit and meet you in your churches and at camp. The invitation is open for you to schedule and visit camp with your church or group, but I want to extend that invitation in reverse. I want to come visit your congregations and share my enthusiasm for camp in person and get to know you! Let me know if there is a good time for your congregation to “Meet the Camp Director” or I will be in contact to set something up in 2012. I believe camp is a great place to get away from your everyday routine and connect with God.

God has been drawing me to camping ministry since my first camp and conference experiences as a senior high. I have been involved at Covenant Point off and on in the past: as a Senior High from First Presbyterian Church in Fulton up to my recent roles as Mom, Dad and Me Program Coordinator and Camp Committee Moderator. I have various other camp experiences as well and even met my wife at a camp. Our three girls, Avrie (6), Quinn (3), Ella (1), are very excited to be part of camp. I am ready to bring new ideas to Covenant Point and to be the new face of camp for the Presbytery.

Thank you,
Rob Hoell

We thank you for your part in this mission.

The population of Hungary is less than that of the state of Illinois, but the Hungarian Reformed Church has almost as many members as the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Some members of the Hungarian Reformed Church live outside the current borders of Hungary, as the denomination extends to territory that was Hungary prior to 1923. There are 9 church districts in the Hungarian Reformed Church, which include 64 sub-districts (similar to our presbyteries.) In 2009 a unified constitution will be presented, hoping to solidify unity among the Reformed Christians in Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Transylvania (Romania). Each church district has a bishop ( a minister) and head curator (an elder). The term of office is 6 years; a person may serve 3 terms. Congregations elect commissioners and the districts elect delegates to the General Synod. Bishops and Head Curators are elected there. A new term will begin in 2009.
The partnership of Missouri Union Presbytery is with the Cistibiscan Church District (Tiszaninneni), the northeast quadrant of Hungary. Their bishop is Jozsef Csomos. Tibor Abram is the Head Curator and Hajnalka Domokos is the head of the office staff. David Pandy-Szekeres, a missionary of the Presbyterian Church of Canada, is our primary contact in the Ukraine.
A major focus of Missouri Union Presbytery’s partnership with the HRC district has been the Academy at Sarospatak, founded in 1531, and now consisting of a primary school, a high school and the seminary. Missouri Union Presbytery also has a partnership with the church district in Ukraine. Missouri Union Presbytery congregations have partnered with these Hungarian Reformed congregations:

JEFFERSON CITY (June 1, 2008) Missouri IMPACT, an ecumenical and interfaith legislative advocacy network, announces the addition of three judicatories to its list of Judicatory Partners for Justice.

New members are: African Methodist Episcopal Church, Fifth Episcopal District; the Baptist General Convention of Missouri; and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Third Episcopal District. CME Bishop Paul A.G. Stewart, Sr., said in announcing his support, “I want the CME Church to be represented on the Missouri IMPACT Board to assist you in fulfilling your mission of social justice advocacy in behalf of the poor and marginalized of this state. They certainly need a voice in Jefferson City.” Presiding Elder Karen Walker McClure, pastor of the Russell Chapel CME Church, Columbia, was named as CME representative.

Rev. Dr. Jim Hill, Executive Director of the Baptist General Convention of Missouri, will represent that body on the Missouri IMPACT Board. Dr. Hill, also chair of Missouri Christians Against Racism and Poverty, stated, “Our Convention is committed to social justice and racial equity and we desire very much to work ecumenically and in interfaith relationships to address the critical needs of Missouri’s disadvantaged citizens. I look forward to working with Missouri IMPACT in its mission of legislative advocacy for social justice.”

The Fifth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will be represented by Rev. Mary Hull-Lovett, pastor of St. Paul AME Church in Columbia. Rev. Hull-Lovett was named to the Missouri IMPACT Board by Rev. Dr. Cecil Howard, AME Former General Secretary.

It is with great sadness we note the death of Dr. Howard. Rev. Dr. John Bennett commented, “Dr. Cecil Howard was a strong supporter of Missouri IMPACT, recently becoming a MO IMPACT Partner for Justice. He was a faithful ecumenist who worked tirelessly in recent years in the formation of Missouri Churches Uniting in Christ. We are deeply saddened by the death of this ecumenical saint who labored graciously in our midst for the unity of the church. We grieve with hope.”

Additional Judicatory Partners are: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Mid-America; Community of Christ; the Episcopal Church, Diocese of Missouri; Central States Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; Missouri Jewish Federation; Presbyterian Church (USA); Missouri Mid-South Conference, United Church of Christ; and Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church.
