Evelyn Bedell Nominations Now Being Accepted

Each Fall Missouri Union Presbytery recognizes the continuing contributions of older adults at both the congregation and Presbytery level by presenting Evelyn Bedell awards to outstanding “elders”. Christian disciples never outgrown God’s call to service. Help us recognize the faithfulness of a deserving older adult by nominating them for this award. The award is named for Evelyn Bedell, who demonstrated in her life, the energy, imagination, intelligence and love with which an older person can serve the church. At age 72, Evelyn came out of retirement to attend San Francisco Theological Seminary and was ordained as the “Tentmaker Pastor” for Bellflower Presbyterian Church and an Older Adult Worker in Missouri Union. She retired again in 1974 and entered the Church Triumphant in July 2010.

Women’s Relax and Craft Retreat

Ladies,

Come out to Covenant Point on Saturday, June 23rd from 9 am to 10 pm and enjoy a crafty make and take, 3 meals, and snacks and drinks. Cost: $40.00

This is an opportunity for you to get together and spend the weekend relaxing and crafting to your hearts desire. Each lady will get a table for their craft, as well as the opportunity for a couple of crafty make & takes. A limited amount of supplies will be available for use so be sure to bring your own stuff to use and swap.

If you are up for a full weekend crafting retreat, check-in begins at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and concludes Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. All meals, snacks, and drinks are included for only $110.00

Update: Monday May 14-Dick is home from the hospital, but is recovering. He is weak and still requests no visitors.

Please keep Rev. Dick Ramsey in your prayers as he has been hospitalized. Dick is the Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. He has requested no visitors or calls.

Mail your One Mission Giving Directly to Presbytery-Effective March 1, 2012

On March 1, 2012, your One Mission Giving, Presbytery Directed Giving (i.e. for specific committee work, mission teams, programs, MUP special offerings, etc.), PC(USA) Special Offerings (One Great Hour of Sharing), Pentecost, Peacemaking, Joy Offering) and other gifts are to be sent directly to the Missouri Union Presbytery office. Proper distribution of funds will be done at the presbytery office instead of the synod office. It is as easy as

2). Make checks payable to Missouri Union Presbytery.

Also please notify the Presbytery office by February 7 of any need for special dietary food or child care.

Rob Hoell Named as Covenant Point Camp Director!

Rob Hoell, from First Presbyterian Church in Fulton, has been named as Covenant Point Camp Director. His degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism, as well has his experience with being a part of a family business has prepared him well for this responsibility. Not letting the grass grow under his feet, he is starting today with this new endeavor. Here is a note from him.

Hello fellow Presbyterians!

I am super excited to be the next Camp Director for Covenant Point Camp and Retreat Center! I am thankful to be able to serve YOU, the members of the Presbytery, and am looking forward to getting to visit and meet you in your churches and at camp. The invitation is open for you to schedule and visit camp with your church or group, but I want to extend that invitation in reverse. I want to come visit your congregations and share my enthusiasm for camp in person and get to know you! Let me know if there is a good time for your congregation to “Meet the Camp Director” or I will be in contact to set something up in 2012. I believe camp is a great place to get away from your everyday routine and connect with God.

God has been drawing me to camping ministry since my first camp and conference experiences as a senior high. I have been involved at Covenant Point off and on in the past: as a Senior High from First Presbyterian Church in Fulton up to my recent roles as Mom, Dad and Me Program Coordinator and Camp Committee Moderator. I have various other camp experiences as well and even met my wife at a camp. Our three girls, Avrie (6), Quinn (3), Ella (1), are very excited to be part of camp. I am ready to bring new ideas to Covenant Point and to be the new face of camp for the Presbytery.

Local Missouri Union Presbyterian Churches donate over $300,000 to mission projects!

According to the results of the Inventory of Missional Giving for 2010, churches in Missouri Union Presbytery gave over $300,000 to 181 different entities including various food pantries, children’s services, benevolence funds and community projects. That’s almost $40 for every Presbyterian on the rolls in Missouri Union Presbytery!
But that’s not all, we also looked at volunteer service hours donated by members in the name of the church. Presbyterians donated over 15,000 hours of service organizations and projects in the community. That is like having 7 people working full-time 40-hour a week jobs doing mission work in Missouri Union Presbytery all year long! That’s A LOT OF LABOR. But it’s not just a labor…it’s a labor of LOVE. It’s a labor for the LOVE of CHRIST. When you look at the BIG Picture …there is an army of Presbyterians building the kingdom of GOD in Missouri Union Presbytery!
