Jul’09 Peru Mission Trip

SIGN UP NOW FOR A TRIP THAT WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD! FPC, Jeff City is sponsoring a Mission/Work Trip to the Amazon region of Peru on July 24 through Aug 1, 2009. Registration deadline (with $200 deposit) is due by Jan 31, 2009. Cost for the 9-day trip: approximately $2500. If you have questions or want to join the 2009 Mission Team contact Dave Henry at dhenry@fpcjcmo.org or 573-636-2149. This is the 7th trip to the Amazon region of Peru by members of First-Jeff City, and the 9^th for group leader, Pastor Henry. Working with Medical Missions, Inc. and the Amazon Mission Fellowship, “the Peru Crew” will work side-by-side with Peruvian Presbyterians on building projects in the village of Tamshiyacu. Team members will worship and join in Bible Study with Pastor Ricardo Jara and the Tamshiyacu congregation, lead a VBS for children of the village, and interact with our sisters and brothers in Christ, forming relationships to last a lifetime. Those with medical skills will have opportunities to work in the medical clinic in Tamshiyacu.

Jan 25-31,09–New Orleans Mission Trip–”Out of Chaos, Hope”

It’s been over 3 years since Hurricanes Katrina & Rita–the work and need for help goes on… Presbytery’s Disaster Assistance Team (MUP-DAT) is planning another mission trip to New Orleans, Jan 25-31, 2009. An organizational meeting will be held on Jan 5, 2009 at 6:45 PM at First Presbyterian, 16 Hitt Street, Columbia, 65201. The cost per individual is $135.All available adults in Missouri Union Presbytery are invited to participate and support Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) in our combined ongoing ministry to bring God’s grace and renewal. The efforts and compassion of MUP-DAT, “Blue Angels of Hope,” will be focused in New Orleans where PDA continues to work in post-Hurricane 2005 reconstruction. The team will stay at PDA Village #9 of Olive Tree (formerly Eastminster Presbyterian) in New Orleans. This mission opportunity is rewarding and enlightening for ALL involved, whether you go and work as part of the mission team, or support participants with prayers, financial contributions and encouragement. The team for this Mission Trip will leave Columbia at 6 a.m. Sun, Jan 25 and return the evening of Sat, Jan 31. ALL Sr Highs (completed grade 9,10,11 & 12, including college-age) from Missouri Union are needed for a Mission Trip to Annville, PA Sat–June 20 thru Sun–June 28, 2009. Reserve your space for this faith-building mission trip with a $60 deposit to Pastor Dave Henry by Jan 15 2009!Total Cost: $450 - Includes transportation, lodging, meals (except fast-food enroute), building materials, supplies & programming. Questions–Contact: Dave Henry 573-636-2149 dhenry@fpcjcmo.org or David Jones 573-645-4991 djones58@gmail.com Working through REACH Workcamps (http://www.reachwc.org/) Senior High Youth will travel to Annville, PA to work on the homes of elderly and low-income families - painting, building porches, decks and ramps, weatherizing, and doing other home repairs. Each day is filled with work projects, devotions, worship, singing, drama, fun and fellowship with youth from throughout the US. Youth are assigned a “work crew” for one project during the week. They get to know a family and share their lives. Participants stay in a local high school (air mattresses and sleeping bags) and eat in the school cafeteria. Evenings are filled with spirit-filled music and worship, excellent dramatic presentations, recreational activities and group reflections. In addition, this year we’ve been invited to a chicken BBQ with an Amish family in Coopersville, PA!

David Jones, Director of Youth and Outdoor Ministries at First Presbyterian, Jeff City and MUP Assistant Camp Director, is a veteran of many work/mission trips, most recently the 2008 REACH Workcamp to Oceana-WV.
