Presbytery thanked the Planning and Evaluation Committee of Council for their hard work and follow through with this multi-year process. Committee members were: Elder Carolyn Stephens–CLP, Rev. Wallis Landrum, Elder Sharon Greer, Rev. Transformation for Timid Churches

Note: There is a file embedded within this post, please visit this post to download the file. 35 attended the FREE Church Transfomation Conference Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Trinity Presbyterian in Columbia. Author and consultant Bill Tenny-Brittian, Senior Editor of Net Results magazine and consultant with 21st Century Strategies, Inc., offered a forceful message that pastors & church leaders must have a strong spiritual foundation AND model behavior & conversations to engage people outside the church–if their congregations are to grow. Additional points about the necessity of a Behavior Covenant among church leaders and effective communication with Gen X, Gen Y and Millenials stimulated considerable discussion.This conference offered church leaders concrete, workable tools for church transformation, regardless of church size or stage. Participants came away with new strategies and ideas to adapt for their congregation. Bill can be reached at: billtb@EasumBandy.com.

Thank you to the staff and wonderful volunteers at First Presbyterian Church, Mexico, for hosting the Presbytery meeting on Thurs, Feb 26, 2009. From volunteers who met commissioners in the parking lot with umbrellas to the wonderful lunch, no opportunity for kindness was overlooked. Thank you, Rev. Terry Kukuk, Roslyn Dial, Karen Wilkinson, Bruce Oliver, Jessica Wietzke, the Praise Music Team (Barbara and Buck Green, Jim Scott, Walter Stanley and Ken Nelson), Joan Soltis, Nancy Caverly, Jennifer Benne, the TERRIFIC cooks in the kitchen, Bob and Helen Fenlon–EVERYONE for making us welcome! Worship and the smooth flow of the meeting, as moderated by Rev. Dick Ramsey, were appreciated and noted by many. Religious Freedom.. An on-line Convocation

Pittsburgh Presbytery will hold an on-line convocation on Thursday, Feb 19, 2009. This informative convocation, entitled “Our Freedom of Religion at Risk–A Presbyterian Crisis” will explore 2 critical issues: 1) the danger that evolving civil law is eroding the historic United States Constitutional protection of the religious practices preserved in Presbyterian polity and 2) the disintegration of connectional life and values in our day. Eden Scholarship for Kris Schondelmeyer

Eden Seminary in St. Louis has selected Kris Schondelmeyer to receive the Walter S. Going Scholarship. This scholarship, created by Rev. Dr. Barbara G. Willock and her husband Mike, honors Barbara’s late father Walter S. Going.
