Preparations for Horizons Study of Revelation

Sat, June 26–Presbyterian Women from churches in Synod of Mid-America spent a delightful and inspiring 5 hours with Rev. Louise Lawson Johnson preparing for the 2010-2011 Horizons Bible Study of Revelation.  ”Journeys Through Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today”  written by Rev. Barbara Rossing, professor of New Testament at Luthrean School of Theology in Chicago, offers new insights into a part of Scripture often misunderstood and misused by Christians and others.  Read more »


Report from PW-MUP Annual Mtg

Annual Gathered Meeting of Presbyterian Women in Missouri Union was held at First Presbyterian, Mexico on Thurs, April 23 (9:30 to 3:00).  Over 60 Presbyterian Women gathered with friends from across the Presbytery to attend an exciting day of worship, a celebration of PW history, and the joy of fellowship.  Highlights were a delicious luncheon prepared by women at First-Mexico, a presentation by CLP Judy King and Elder Bess Gamm about the Criminal Justice ministry of Presbytery, the collection of 10 large boxes of CWS Health Kits for the Festival of Sharing and an insoiring sermon by Rev. Terry Kukuk.  Read more »


Alice Locke-New Address

Please pray for God’s presence and comfort for Alice Locke, the widow of Rev. Ken Locke.  Mrs. Locke, with her husband, served many congregations in Missouri Union before, during and after the years Rev. Locke was our Executive Presbyter.  After Ken’s death in 2008, Alice has continued to live in Hastings NE, near their son. Alice’s health is has declined and she has been moved into nursing care. Her new address is: The Villa, 931 East F Street, Hastings, NE 68901. Cards of encouragement are much appreciated.

PW Fall Wkshp Cluster 4

Cluster Leaders Allegra Harrison and Kay Metcalf have scheduled Fall Workshops for Saturday, Sept 27 at First Presbyterian Jefferson City for ALL Presbyterian Women in Missouri Union, especially those in Cluster 4 churches.  Two workshops are planned, with all attendees being able to participate in both.  Registration 9:00 a.m.  Workshops 9:30 to 1:00 (concludes with lunch) Cost of Lunch is $5.

Kay Metcalf will present teaching suggestions and overview of 2008-09 Horizons Bible Study–JUBILEE (the Gospel of Luke). Kay recently attended a workshop conducted by Dale Lindsay Morgan, who authored this study, and she has exciting ideas to share!

Fern Lemasters will discuss Advance Directives for Health Issues.  This workshop is especially helpful for those making end-of-life decisions, either for themselves or a loved one.  The time to consider what one wants regarding later years healthcare is before a medical crisis.

Other topics will include July 2009 Churchwide Gathering and computer awareness.

Presbyterian Women of Missouri Union are invited to attend Fall Workshops at Longwood Prebyterian Church in Marshall on Thursday, Spetember 25. Women at churches in Cluster 1 are espcially encouraged to be part of the training, fellowship and worship with others in their area.
