History and background: God’s People have worshipped and served Christ together in Missouri’s Capital City for 175 years. Displays, historic hymns and even “in-person” visits from past leaders have been part of activities and events leading up to this special celebration centering on worship followed by an anniversary luncheon. This historic, and largest congregation in the Presbytery, was organized in June 1834. In 1868 the church was built at the corner of Madison and McCarty Streets. In 1927 the current building replaced that earlier structure. Since then the church has undergone major additions and renovations as the congregation grew and expanded it’s service and outreach to the community. Even this year, major improvements have been completed as the church prepared for this new milestone in 2009. Call the church office at 573/636-2149 for more information. Congratulations First Presbyterian!
