DAT 3/14/09 Work Rpt

(Sat, March 14, 2009) Volunteers from Pike County Presbyterian Churches Help Flooded Family Rebuild Their Home  Annada, Missouri, a small town inundated by the Mississippi River in 2008, does not get much attention from state or local officials. The Pike County Long Term Recovery Committee learned of a family in Annada who used FEMA funds to purchase a double-wide mobile home after their house was declared uninhabitable. However, after renting a motel for a month, buying the mobile home, installing a septic system and handicap access ramp, they had no money to add insulation, skirting or build a second handicapped ramp. The husband’s serious medical problems compound their difficulties.

On Saturday, March 14, 2009, 10 volunteers from First Presbyterian Bowling Green, First Presbyterian Louisiana, and Elmwood Presbyterian worked alongside the homeowners to remove old insulation and install new insulation and skirting. After a day of hard work, wonderful camaraderie and fellowship, everyone felt a wonderful sense of accomplishment doing God’s work. The team returned after church, on Sunday, March 15 and finished all but a section on one side, the corners and the access doors. Work will be completed on Saturday, March 21. Contact Jane Woods if you would like to help. Thanks to Wes, Sheila and Zachary Patton, Tim and Jamie Turco, Gene and Alice Pritchett, Kris Pettey, Pastor John Lersch, Stefanie Davis and Terry Fuerst for helping this family in Annada get back into their own home again. The homeowner’s wife went to church on Sunday for the first time in two years with renewed Hope!
Blessings on all of you,

Jane Woods
