New Steeple & Bells in Bowling Green
Today, Wednesday, October 22, 2008, First Presbyterian Church-Bowling Green installed a new steeple and carolonic bell system. Workers arrived around 7:30 a.m. and began inspections and initial work. By noon, the steeple was in place with the cross on top. By 1:00 p.m. the bell system was working and playing for the community to hear.
It has been a long-standing dream of the church to restore both of these traditions. The previous steeple blew over last September. The bell system, which was installed in the 1950’s, has not worked since about 1997. Insurance paid for the steeple replacement and additional money was raised for the bell system. The new bell system can be enjoyed both inside and outside the building. It has taken a lot of work and planning to reach this day. Preparations are underway for a dedication service/program in the near future.
I want to thank everyone who has worked hard on this project, especially at a time when the church was without a pastor for almost a year and a half.
