2008 Mission Trip-Hungary, Ukraine & Romania

1. My first impression on returning to Hungary this year was of great activity. Bishop Csomos met us with many of those who work in various areas of church life. Small Membership CE Curriculum Workshop

Friday Sept 26, participants from MUP and three other presbyteries of the Synod of Mid-America gathered at Heartland Center for a workshop to learn about a new curriculum being written for small membership churches.  This curriculum combines traditional teaching methods used by most of our small membership churches, the workshop rotation model of CE, and consideration of multiples intelligences for learning.  Read more »


PAM Gathering Feb ‘09

Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) invites all of it’s “professional” members (those responsible for a music program, directing a choir or instrument ensemble), their pastors and worship committee members to join them at this gathering Febraury 5-8, 2009. University Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas is the site of this conference designed to deepen their partnership in the ministry of worship while exploring worship as “disciple making.” (Non-PAM members are welcome.)

PW Fall Wkshp Cluster 4

Cluster Leaders Allegra Harrison and Kay Metcalf have scheduled Fall Workshops for Saturday, Sept 27 at First Presbyterian Jefferson City for ALL Presbyterian Women in Missouri Union, especially those in Cluster 4 churches.  Two workshops are planned, with all attendees being able to participate in both.  Registration 9:00 a.m.  Workshops 9:30 to 1:00 (concludes with lunch) Cost of Lunch is $5.

Kay Metcalf will present teaching suggestions and overview of 2008-09 Horizons Bible Study–JUBILEE (the Gospel of Luke). Kay recently attended a workshop conducted by Dale Lindsay Morgan, who authored this study, and she has exciting ideas to share!

Fern Lemasters will discuss Advance Directives for Health Issues.  This workshop is especially helpful for those making end-of-life decisions, either for themselves or a loved one.  The time to consider what one wants regarding later years healthcare is before a medical crisis.

Other topics will include July 2009 Churchwide Gathering and computer awareness.

PW Fall Wkshp Cluster 1

Presbyterian Women of Missouri Union are invited to attend Fall Workshops at Longwood Prebyterian Church in Marshall on Thursday, Spetember 25. Women at churches in Cluster 1 are espcially encouraged to be part of the training, fellowship and worship with others in their area. Emergency Need for Clean-up Buckets!

Church World Service has shipped almost all their supply of “Gift of the Heart” kits on hand in their warehouses in response to recent hurricanes.  This is an urgent appeal for the kits to help families affected by the storms. Recent shipments of kits are listed below: 

  • 3,266 clean-up buckets to Louisiana and Texas
  • 11,420 hygiene kits to Louisiana and Texas
  • 5,000 hygiene kits to Haiti
  • 5,000 school kits to Haiti
  • 864 baby kits to Louisiana

Especially needed at this time are clean-up buckets to re-supply the warehouse at Ferncliff Presbyterian Camp and Conference Center.  Ferncliff will continue to  provide clean-up buckets to families in Texas and Louisiana as they recover from hurricanes Gustav and Ike.   • 1 five-gallon bucket with sealable lid*
  • 5 scouring pads
  • 7 sponges, assorted sizes
  • 1 scrub brush
  • 18 clean towels (reusable, like Easy Wipes)
  • 1 box dry-laundry detergent 50-78 oz.
  • 1 bottle liquid concentrated household cleaner (i.e. Lysol) 12 oz.
  • 1 bottle liquid antibacterial dish detergent (e.g. Dawn) 25 oz.
  • Clothes line, two 50 ft or one 100 ft
  • 50 clothes pins
  • 5 dust masks
  • 2 pair latex gloves
  • 1 pair heavy-duty work gloves
  • 1 box heavy-duty trash bags, 22-27 count (33-45 gallon)
  • 1 bottle insect repellant (drops or lotion, no aerosol) 6-14 oz.

Please purchase all liquids in plastic bottles. Send only new, unopened materials. Make sure lids are tightly closed. Put all items in the plastic bucket, making sure they are packed securely to avoid damage during shipment. Seal closed with lid. These kits enable people to begin cleaning up after a disaster in the United States.        Value $45            $3/kit requested shipping donation
