Prayer Shawl Ministry at FPC Columbia and other MUP churches

In Feb 2005 First Church in Columbia began a Prayer Shawl Ministry; it’s really very simple. A shawl may be either knitted or crocheted. Each shawl begins with prayer and prayers are continued throughout the making of the whole piece. The shawls may be made individually at home or in small gatherings for intercessory prayer. At First Church deacons deliver completed shawls to those facing difficulties, as a reminder of  the church’s continual prayers. Every month when the deacons meet, they pray foe those who have received shawls. This ministry was officially dedicated during worship on Pentecost Sunday in 2005.  Since then over 50 shawls have been given to members and friends of the church. A prayer shawl ministry is very simple to begin and maintain; the cost is only for yarn. For more information, including knitting and crocheting patterns, check out the website www.shawlministry.com or email kathiej@fpccolumbia.org
